1. Bosch Rotak 34 R – Best Electric Lawn Mower for a Small Garden

Bosch, renowned for its dependable power tools, also offers an impressive range of outdoor lawn care products. The Bosch Rotak 34 R lawnmower exemplifies their commitment to excellence, earning a prominent position on our list across various essential categories, all while remaining a cost-effective choice.

This lawnmower is a corded electric model, featuring a robust 1300 watt motor, which ensures exceptional performance. Additionally, the Bosch Rotak 34 R eliminates the need for manual edging, thanks to its integrated grass combs that effectively cut over the edges.

In terms of cutting versatility, this lawnmower surpasses its competitors, offering a broad cutting height range of 20 to 70 mm. To optimize efficiency and reduce time spent on the task, the Bosch Rotak 34 R boasts a generous 34 cm cutting width and is accompanied by a spacious 40-liter grass collection bag.

Weighing a manageable 11.1 kg, this lawnmower is highly portable and features a convenient folding handle, allowing for easy storage without occupying excessive space. However, it is important to note that assembly of the Bosch Rotak 34 R can be challenging, and caution should be exercised when handling the plastic components involved in making adjustments.

Pros
  • Has a 1300 watt motor
  • Has cut heights of 20 to 70 mm
  • Has a 34 cm cut width
  • Is less expensive
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
  • Not great plastic components

2. Greenworks Tools G40LM35K2 – Best Cordless Lawn Mower for Small Garden

Greenworks Tools is an interesting company in that its founding principle hinges on providing lawn care products that use sustainable power sources. While not the only company on our list to do so, the Greenworks Tools G40LM35K2 is the only option we reviewed that is battery-powered.

This means you get the same great sustainable performance you would from other electric lawnmowers without having to worry about managing any cables. While this may present some issues when dealing with extremely thick or wet grass, this lawnmower comes with a 40V motor.

On top of that, the Greenworks Tools G40LM35K2 employs plenty of features designed for larger lawns like a 40-liter bag. Not only does this lawnmower tie for the largest clipping receptacle, but it also mulches the grass clippings as it cuts to revitalize your lawn with additional nutrients.

This lawnmower also comes with the second-largest deck on our list at 35 cm which will significantly reduce the amount of time you have to spend cutting it. As if that were not enough, the Greenworks Tools G40LM35K2 features a wider range of cutting heights than any of its competitors at 32 to 85 mm.

Pros
  • Has a 40 volt motor
  • Has a 35 cm cut width
  • Has cut heights of 32 to 85 mm
  • Has a 40 liter bag
Cons
  • Is more expensive
  • Not the most powerful

3. Flymo Easi Glide 300 – Best Hover Mower for Small Garden

Flymo is known primarily as the inventor of the first hover lawnmower on the market, and the company continues to take strides pushing that innovation further. The Flymo Easi Glide 300 is a perfect example of this and its hover feature easily makes it the most convenient lawnmower to use that we reviewed.

The hovering function might make it easier to use, but it also has the added benefit of making it easier to cut grass over uneven ground. However, its hovering ability is not the only convenience attached to this product as it also is the second-lightest model on our list, tipping the scales at 8 ½ Kg.

Even better, this is another lawnmower whose handles fold down for easier storage and even comes with a carrying handle built into the frame. That said, the Flymo Easi Glide 300 does not give as much choice in terms of cutting height with the shortest range of only 10 to 30 mm.

In terms of performance, the Flymo Easi Glide 300 is no slouch as it ties our more traditional, corded electric lawnmower with a 1300 watt motor. Still, it will take you a bit longer to cut your lawn with this entry due to its narrow deck of only 30 cm and a small clipping bag of only 20 liters.

Pros
  • Is easier to maneuver
  • Has a 1300 watt motor
  • Cuts uneven ground
  • Is less expensive
Cons
  • Requires and outlet
  • Has a smaller cut range

4. Einhell GC-HM 30 – Best Manual Lawn Mower for Small Garden

Einhell is interesting as it is one of the few companies on our list that does not specialize specifically in lawn care products but still appeals to those looking for budget-friendly solutions. To that end, the Einhell GC-HM 30 is not only our best budget lawnmower but also the best manual model we found.

While the lack of automation might seem like a disadvantage, the lack of complex electronics and machinery makes it much easier to use than most of its competition. Even better, while using the Einhell GC-HM 30 is easy enough, its design also necessitates less maintenance.

One thing to consider, however, is that this lawnmower cannot truly compete with most of the other models in terms of raw cutting power- especially when cutting wet grass. On the other hand, the absence of an engine or motor means that you can use this lawnmower as often as you like without having to worry about burning the grass.

Still, you will spend more time cutting your grass using this option than you most of the others on our list as it has the smallest deck we saw at only 30 cm as well as the smallest clipping bag at only 16 liters. Thankfully, this compact profile at least makes it easy to maneuver, right along with its lightweight design that comes in at a svelte 6 ½ Kg.

Pros
  • Is easier to use
  • Requires little maintenance
  • Will not burn grass
  • Is less expensive
Cons
  • Is not automated
  • Not as powerful

5. Mountfield 297411048/M17 – Best Petrol Lawn Mower for Small Garden

Mountfield is likely one of the more recognizable companies on our list as it has been one of the best-selling lawn care brands for over 50 years. The Mountfield HP41 also happens to be our best petrol lawnmower, and it easily outperforms the competition in terms of raw cutting power.

For starters, this lawnmower comes with a massive 100 cc engine that generates 1.55 kW of power at 2800 rpms. As if that were not enough, the Mountfield HP41 also boasts the widest deck width on our review which will reduce your cut time more than any other model.

Even better, you do not have to worry about constantly starting and stopping your chore as the 40-liter clipping bag is also the biggest we reviewed. While not the largest on our list, the height range of the Mountfield HP41 varies from 25 to 70 mm and is more than broad enough for most people’s taste.

It is worth noting that not only is the Mountfield HP41 an expensive option, the fact that it requires petrol fuel increases its lifetime cost. Thankfully, the use of an RS100 OHV 4-stroke engine not only provides plenty of cutting power but increases its fuel-efficiency above a traditional 2-stroke petrol lawnmower engine.

Pros
  • Has a 100 cc motor
  • Generates 1.55 kW @ 2800 rpm
  • Has cut heights of 25 to 70 mm
  • Has a 39 cm cut width
Cons
  • Is more expensive
  • Requires more maintenance

Conclusion

As we can see, there is not a single lawnmower that will work best for everyone with a small garden. If your lawn rapidly grows a thick species of grass, chances are you need a lawnmower with more torque than most like the Mountfield HP 41.

On the other hand, if your lawn is naturally more manageable, something like the Bosch Rotak 34 R might be a better option. In terms of maneuverability, there are few lawnmowers more capable than the Flymo Easi Glide 300 with its lightweight design and hover function.

If you do not want to deal with either petrol or a cord, the Greenworks Tools G40LM35K2 is a good battery-powered model. Finally, the Einhell GC-HM 30 is perfect for those who prefer the classic manual style of lawnmower or just wanted to save a little money.
