1. Super Tough Commercial Grade Sectional Flagpole – Best Flag Pole
If you need a flag pole that will not buckle under the stiffest of winds, the Super Tough is the flag pole for you. Aside from the fact that this flagpole provides some of the best specs on our list, it also features one of the best construction builds as well. Of course, that can be a bit of a pain in some instances, but it is a price well worth paying to ensure that your residential flag pole does not come down during a storm.
When it comes to the durability of the residential flag poles on our list, the Super Tough live up to its name and is by far the most durable that we saw.
Another great quality about this flag pole is the different options that it provides you, so you can find the right one for your needs. For instance, this flag pole comes in 2 different sizes: 20’ and 25’ – the latter of which is tied for the tallest flag pole size that we reviewed. On top of that, this flag pole also comes in 4 different finishes, so you can match the flag pole with the rest of your home’s exterior design.
2. WindStrong Heavy Duty Residential Flag Pole – Best Telescoping Flagpole
Though WindStrong is not actually ranked the editor’s choice on our list, it very well could be and, depending on your needs, might be a better option. This is because the WindStrong is able to combine a fairly solid durability with a far more convenient mechanism for changing out the flag in case you want to rotate what kind of flag you fly. Though, you will need to take extra care when doing so.
ConvenienceBy far the best quality about the WindStrong residential flag pole is that it features a telescoping design. This means that the flag pole can be collapsed inside of itself which makes for reaching the actual flag significantly easier than a residential flag pole that is not telescopic in nature. The only potential issue with this is if you do not properly lock the flag pole in place, the joints could bow under heavier winds.
Were this flag pole equal in durability to our editor’s choice, this would by far be the best residential flag pole we reviewed. That said, this is still one of the more durable residential flag poles that we saw. First, the butt is a second-best 2 ½” in diameter to keep the flag pole secured in the ground. On top of that, the flag pole’s walls are 1/16” thick, which is the standard thickness for a residential flag pole.
3. Grace Alley Flag Pole Kit – Best Home Flagpole
Not all people need a large flag pole sticking in the ground of their property – in fact, some people may not even be allowed to construct such a flag pole on their property due to the limitations of their local municipal regulations. In this instance, you will need a flag pole that is not quite as large and has a different kind of mount. Thankfully, the Grace Alley is an ideal residential flag pole for this situation.
Unlike every other residential flag pole that we reviewed, the Grace Alley is a wall-mounted flag pole. This means that the mounting hardware will be installed directly onto the building or infrastructure on the property. Aside from the fact that this may be the only option depending on your municipal regulation, this also makes the Grace Alley residential flag pole the easiest product to install that we saw. This also makes it much easier to change out the flag.
When it comes to wall-mounted flag poles, you expect there to be a bit of a drop off in terms of durability compared to the much larger in-ground mounted residential flag pole. That said, the Grace Alley is still a step above its competitors in a couple regards. First, this wall-mounted flag pole is made of aluminum rather than PVC like many other wall-mounted residential flag poles. It also features a solid 1” diameter butt to keep it securely mounted to your wall.
4. Valley Forge Flag Kit – Best Flag Pole Kit
If you are in the market for an in-ground residential flag pole but do not want to pay through the nose for it, then the Valley Forge Flag residential flag pole is a great option. Though it does not exceed some of its competitors in terms of durability specs, it does meet all of the industry standards. On top of that, this product comes with the best flag options that we saw.
While some people may want a residential flag pole to display numerous types of flags throughout the year depending on holidays and the season, most people who purchase an in-ground residential flag pole do so to fly the colors of their country.
Though this may not necessarily be the largest flag pole on our list, it still comes with plenty of the expected specs that ultimately determine how durable a residential flag pole will be. For instance, this flag pole is made of aluminum and features a cast aluminum truck and cleat. On top of that, the butt of this residential flag pole is 2” in diameter and the walls are 1/16” thick, so the Valley Forge Flag residential flag pole will not buckle under pressure.
5. Ezpole Flagpoles Liberty Flagpole Kit – Top Rated Telescoping Flagpoles
EZ Pole aims to be the most convenient residential flag pole, but it may not necessarily achieve that goal – though it is not too terribly far from the mark either. While this is definitely one of the most convenient residential flag poles that we saw, it is also a bit more finicky than some. That said, it is reasonably priced and offers more all-around value than virtually any other residential flag pole that we could find.
Like some other residential flag poles that we saw, the EZ Pole is a telescopic residential flag pole which will allow you to change out the flag if desired much quicker and easier than most of the other products on our list. That said, this flag pole will definitely require you to pay more attention to how you line up and lock the different telescopic pieces of the EZ Pole or else you may suffer from some durability issues – though if you take your time and double-check your connections, that will not be a problem.
Under the assumption that you are careful when locking the different telescopic pieces together, the EZ Pole offers plenty of value.
Though all of the residential flag poles we reviewed were made of aluminum, that is not the only material used in their construction. Residential flag poles can also be made of stainless steel and fiberglass. All of these materials have their benefits and drawbacks, but in the end, aluminum is generally seen as the best all-around material to use.
Stainless steel is by far the most durable material used, but it is also the heaviest which can make installation even more of a chore than it already is.
Fiberglass is the lightest material used, and thus the easiest to install, but it is also the weakest.
Thankfully, aluminum offers an excellent balance between strength and weight while also being naturally anti-rust and anti-corrosion.
The butt diameter of a residential flag pole is by far one of the most important qualities to consider. Essentially, a residential flag pole’s butt is the piece at the base that keeps the flag pole secured to whatever medium is keeping in the ground – generally, this is concrete. In this case, the larger the diameter of the flag pole butt, the better leverage that the butt can provide to keep the flag pole from wiggling around and eventually coming free from its base.
The wall thickness is the other dimension of a flag pole that plays an incredibly important role in determining how durable the residential flag pole will be. For most full-size, in-ground residential flag pole, the walls of the pole will be 1/16” thick. However, there are some brands that go above and beyond that to offer flag pole walls which are 1/8” thick. Of course, wall-mounted residential flag poles will rarely feature flag pole walls anywhere near that level of thickness.
This is an optional feature on some residential flag poles and it is employed specifically to make changing out the flag flown on the pole easier. While many flag poles use a halyard system to raise or lower the flag by hand, a telescopic flag pole will screw and unscrew different sections of the pole. These sections can collapse inside of themselves to make raising and lower the pole easier. The only issue is that telescopic residential flag poles do not often offer the option to fly the flag at half mast.
Flag Pole Installation
As we can see, depending on where you are located, the region’s climate, the municipal regulations, and your available space, there is simply not a single residential flag pole which can satisfy all people equally. That said, there are definitely a couple residential flag poles which stand out a bit above the rest.
If you are looking for the absolute best residential flag pole on our list, we recommend the Super Tough flag pole. Aside from the fact that it is thicker at the butt as well as the walls of the flag pole, it also comes with the most options for finish. While it may be tough to assemble, that simply keeps it standing through thick and thin.
Of course, if you are looking for a residential flag pole that can allow you to quickly and easily change out the flag, then we recommend the WindStrong. As one of the few telescoping flag poles that we reviewed, it is much more convenient for changing the flag. On top of that, it is also tied for the tallest and is a more durable flag pole than some.
